Located in Indian River County and serving as a principal city of the Sebastian−Vero Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, Sebastian is a relatively small community, with a population of just over 25,700 residents.

Settled in the 1870s, Sebastian formally incorporated as a municipality in December of 1924 and then incorporated as a city just about six months later in May of 1925. The town of Sebastian is also part of what’s known as the “Treasure Coast,” so named due to the numerous ships that sunk near the peninsula carrying precious metals and more.
